Pacquiao vs Mayweather Superbowl Update

With both sides basically agreeing to face each other on what could be the biggest fight in the history of boxing, only Mayweather’s signature is now needed to make the fight official.

According to a report released earlier today (12/9/2009) from a reliable boxing website, Freddie Roach, trainer of Pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao, has issued a statement that his ward has indeed signed the contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. This report still has to be confirmed, though, as Pacquiao’s promoter and Top Rank Chief Bob Arum is still mum on the details of the negotiations.

Pacquiao vs Cotto Weigh-in Results

The results are in!

Pacquiao: 144lbs
Cotto: 145lbs

Interestingly, Cotto made weight despite the doubts that he will not be make it. Unlike Mayweather who came in overweight during the weighin and so much more during fight night, Cotto kept his end of the bargain. I guess tha $1 million per excess poundage was just really hard to ignore.

Good for Cotto. Cant wait for fight night.

Pacquiao vs Cotto: Hagler vs Hearns II?

24 Years Ago on April 15, 1985, Marvelous Marvin Hagler said something that no one knew would have a different meaning today (Nov 2009).

“I told you I was going to eat him up like Pacman!” – Marvelous Marvin Hagler after knocking Thomas “the Hitman” Hearns aka The Motor City Cobra.

Floyd Mayweather: ‘Philippines make the best enhancement drugs’

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back on the spot light, or at least trying to be. Just read about Money Mayweather’s
supposed radio interview with a certain RA Rugged Man on Shade 45 on XM/Sirius. (still have to verify and listen to the interview for myself).

‘Philippines make the best enhancement drugs’, said Mayweather.

Clearly refering to the incredible rise of Manny Pacquiao from Flyweight(112 lbs) to Welterweight (147 lbs),
Floyd Mayweather Jr has once again unleashed a barrage of blows outside the ring.

Last year, there were a number of people, including Matt Mullenweg himself, who raised very valid concerns about the way we let bloggers attend WordCamp for free, in exchange for having them post an article with links to the event’s sponsors. Some of these concerns were the following:

Google, in particular, frowns upon frivolous linking, of [...]

theater imitates life

Transparency International has made public the result of its recent survey. Although the Philippines did not make it to the list of the most corrupt countries as another survey on corruption perception index indicate, most Filipinos believe that their public servants are corrupt. This news brings to mind a brilliant and hilarious play which I saw last month at the National Arts Center in Makiling, Laguna.
Pragres is a musical adaptation of “Progress,” a short story by National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose. The play will have its performance tour in various schools and venues around the country starting in May. The tour is in connection with the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 40th anniversary.
Set during Martial Law, Pragres is a hilarious satire on lazy government employees and the entire government bureaucracy under its “The New Society” slogan. It follows the travails of a provincial senior clerk who went to Manila to seek the endorsement of her promotion. As she encounters one bureaucrat after another, and learning the “under-the-table” business up to the extent of prostituting herself to a sleazy department manager, the clerk drowns in incompetence and corruption. Adapted for stage by Philippine High School for the Arts’ Dulaang Sipat Lawin Ensemble.
From June 17- 20, the group will perform at the SM Rosales, Pangasinan and at the St. Louis University in Baguio City. This August, the group will also perform at the Philippine Normal University (PNU). The cast includes Skyzx Labastilla, Nar Cabico, and the Dulaang Sipat Lawin Ensemble. Originally directed by Herbie Go, the restaging will have Abner Delina as its repetiteur.

Mayweather Sr and Ricky Hatton Falling-Out?

In the Pacquiao-Hatton 24/7 HBO documentary it was bared that, in a number of sessions when Floyd Mayweather Sr trained Hatton, the outspoken trainer has been having issues on punctuality, being late many times, sometimes by hours (One segment showed Mayweather Sr stopping by a Taco Bell Drive-thru despite being late for their training session).

According to reports, Ricky ‘the Hitman’ Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Sr has not heard a word from each other since the Hitman was KOed by Pacquiao. Hatton was sent straight to the hospital for a medical checkup while Mayweather Sr was nowhere to be found during the post-fight conference. Floyd Mayweather Sr was not even present to check on Hatton after the devastating KO that kept hatton on the canvass for quite a while. Nor was he with Hatton when the dazed fighter struggled on his way back to the locker room.

Who’s Next for Pacquiao?

“I can fight anyone”.

This was the answer of Manny Pacquiao in the post-fight interview after his fight with Ricky Hatton. And now that Floyd Mayweather Jr’s return is official, boxing fans can never discount the fact that the winner of the Juan Manual Marquez-Floyd Mayweather matchup on July 18, 2009 is the biggest fight there is among the possible names being lined-up for Pacman.

Should Mayweather defeat Marquez, Pretty-boy Floyd will be in a very good position for a mega-fight against Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather Jr retired in 2007 after giving Ricky Hatton his first taste of defeat in his pro career. Mayweather once held the Pound-for-Pound best title before hanging up his gloves. That title is now owned by Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.

Pacquiao demolishes Hatton in 2

Pacquiao has solidified his status even more as the #1 Pound-for-pound best fighter in the world with a round 2 demolition of British pugilist Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton.

The gameplan went as planned, for the Pacquiao camp that is. Before the fight, Manny Pacquiao’s coach and trainer Freddie Roach bodly predicted that Pacman will knock out Ricky Hatton inside of 3 rounds. And true enough, the fight was ended with Hatton kissing the canvass in the 2nd round.

Mayweather to fight Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 2009

In a very surprising development, Dan Rafael of espn.com has written about the confirmed comeback of Floyd Mayweather Jr. to boxing. Reports of the confirmed comeback surfaced after the weigh-in of the Pacquiao-Hatton fight. The announcement for the fight is said to be made on friday at a news conference.

See below excerpts of Dan Rafael’s column on espn.com about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Juan Manuel Marquez anticipated matchup.
