Bakit sya nawala

Marami ang nagtatanong bakit bigla na lang nawala si Babe in the City.

friday at the mall

12: 55 P.M. I enter the mall. The security guards are unusually thorough. They ask me what’s inside the red polycarbonate case inside my bag. “My laptop,” I tell them. They look skeptical. I open the case. They see the whiteness of my Mac. I am hungry and impatient, but I appreciate the meticulousness. I hope they are like this everyday. “What’s inside the transparent plastic?” They ask. “My umbrella. Want me to open it?” They shake their heads and let me through.
1:05 P.M. I order my favorite vegetable curry in a Chinese restaurant.
1:50 P.M. I window shop. The entire population of Guindolongan, Talitay, Mamasapano –all in Maguindanao province— are here. The mall is getting crowded.
3:10 P.M. I am waiting in line in the supermarket. I hear an altercation between the cashier and a nicely dressed lady in stilettos. I snoop. The cashier refuses to give a discount to the lady despite her senior citizen’s card. “Ma’am, are you sure this is yours?” The cashier inquires. “Of course, it’s mine,” the lady answers. “You look too young to be the one on this ID.” “That’s because I had something done to my face!” The lady is almost yelling. She looks around, embarrassed by her admission of cosmetic surgery, her demeanor, or both. We remain silent. “Is it a sin to look good in old age?” We shake our heads.
She reminds me that I will be a year older tomorrow.

word of the year

Every year the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa conducts the Salita ng Taon competition in which one can nominate words that are of foreign provenance but through constant use they have acquired local nuance, thus, they have become Filipinized. In previous years words such as ‘toxic’ and ‘lobat’ (low battery, denoting tiredness) had made it into the Filipino lexicon.

This early I am nominating the word ‘SCRIPTED’ which is becoming popular thanks to Mrs. Irene Kho, the mother of the hunk-boytoy whose bedroom habits have become a chismis staple of late. ‘Scripted’ means something fake and contrived.

In fact, the #1 as of this writing is an application called Filipino iPhone Community or FiC, an app that allows FiC members “to check [...]

Apparently, Villar owns or [...]

I am all for Japanese cuisine, but I also love spicy food. I speak Nihongo and I have immersed myself in the Japanese culture since I was a kid, but when it comes to food, I sometimes cross the Sea of Japan to Korea. See, aside from wasabi there’s not much else that’s spicy in [...]

Bibimbap @ Sigol Bap Sang

This is one Korean dish that I now love! Bibimbap is basically a rice dish with lots of different vegetables, and egg. Sigol Bap Sang serves it with sesame oil and a red bean paste that makes it spicy — mix in as much as you like!

Deep-Fried Dayana

Side of ham? Grilled pork? Nope. This is deep-fried dayana, a kind of large fish. I don’t know what it’s called in English, though… Lovely and rich meat, but it’s not exactly available in the markets at all times.
