div style=”text-align: justify;”“That’s the third time today,” Mogley pointed out to me, referring to a trio of carolers at the gate. “Just ignore them.” br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“Did you give them money?” I asked. I peeped into the window to take a closer look, still wiping my face with a towel. It was a family of Bajaus. The husband was beating his improvised bongo drums fashioned out of infant formula milk tin cans, while the wife danced reluctantly to the rhythm. The third member of the group, a young boy –about two years old— his hair sun bleached like his parents, held out his palm in an almost permanent manner. br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“I gave them a few coins and a shirt two days ago.”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”You mean they’ve been here before?” I suppressed a yawn. I worked until 3 am to finish an essay, and had just been awakened. br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“Everyday for the past week. Twice or thrice a day.”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“Are you sure these are the same people?”br //div div style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“Uhuh,” Mogley handed me my coffee. “If you give them something, they come back thinking that you’ll give them more next time.”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“It’s a merry Christmas then, aye.” I went back to my room and reviewed my essay. I had a deadline to beat by noon. Suddenly, the neighbor’s dog let out a doleful cry like the one you hear in horror movies. “What the heck! It’s only 9 am.” br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”“Our neighbors are on vacation. They left their Dalmatian alone. Poor fellow,” Mogley informed me. The constant howling was distracting. I could not focus on my work anymore. My mind went back to the carolers who were at my gate only ten minutes ago. I felt like the innkeeper who rejected the Holy Family on account that there was no vacancy. They were pestering me all right. But I felt guilty for not fulfilling my span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;”zakat/span duties in this season of giving./divdiv class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/19879990-3157754592695851434?l=morofilm.blogspot.com’//div

div style=”text-align: justify;”I’ve been losing (too much) weight for the past two months. I’m beginning to worry. I’ve lost 8 pounds without even trying. This despite my pigging out habit almost every day because of the holidays. In fact I ate four servings of rice during dinner a few nights ago. Like a carpenter, Mogley said. Last night I ate a large box of potato wedges. Never mind if they’re rich in transfat. I also had ten thin slices of French baguette. I ate three platefuls of pasta today, generously drizzled with olive oil. “Carbo-loading is the key to gain weight,” I said to myself. br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”Worried I called my doctor friend Fernan if this sudden weight loss is symptomatic of any serious disease. I read in a magazine somewhere that Gray’s Anatomy star, Eric Dane, found out he had cancer after losing so much weight, without any effort. My friend advised that I undergo some tests to see what’s wrong. Maybe after Christmas./divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”br //divdiv style=”text-align: justify;”I’m now in a coffeeshop, drinking durian latte packed with more than 2,000 calories. Have you noticed the growing number of Filipino companies advertising on Facebook lately? This trend points to two things: 1) the population of Filipino users in Facebook has reached critical mass already; and, 2) businesses in the Philippines are finally grasping the reality behind ‘new media’ and the benefits of online advertising and marketing.

After complementing the hosts for their mouth watering recipes, I tried out some of the food provided they don’t have any meat content. I got lucky in one party where ratatouille over pasta was served. It was superb. Vegetable spring roll in peanut sauce was a treat in another party -I couldn’t resist asking for the recipe. Of course, they were an exception as Filipino parties can’t be complete without the staple spaghetti in meat (and Papa catsup) sauce, span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;”lechon/span, fried chicken, span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;”pansit/span, span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;”lumpia/span shanghai, etc. At the end of the meals, the hosts would invite me to have dessert. In all the eleven parties, mango float was served. I deduced that it is the new star of the Filipino feast, replacing fruit salad -the typical dessert ten years ago. In most cases, the mango float tasted okay. The Graham cracker crusts had enough butter, and they melted in your mouth. The mango was sweet, and the cream whipped properly. But I was thinking, with the abundance of fruits in our tropical isles, nobody even considered substituting other fruits. The tartness of kiwi, for example, is a perfect ender for the fattiness of roasted pig. My personal favorite would be a banana version. I had a chance to sample it in a coffee shop in Davao called Kasagingan, and it was fabulous. Durian can be tricky, but it’s achievable? How about span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;”alateris /spanorspan class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-style: italic;” marang/span? Again, who knows?br //div/divdiv class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/19879990-3637509739301481360?l=morofilm.blogspot.com’//div
